Students are asked to request the activities they wish the most to participate in, and every effort is made to accommodate each student. After every marking period there will be an opportunity for students to change activities, contingent upon good behavior, positive attitude and active participation.

Student Fun Nights at Covenant Preparatory School

Every student is invited to participate in “Fun Nights” at school on Friday evenings. At Fun Nights, Covenant faculty members play games and conduct activities with the students, giving the boys an opportunity to relax and get to know each other in a purely social setting, free of academic pressures. The Student Council is periodically designated to plan special Fun Nights with various themes, including sports competitions and musical performances

Summer Camps at Covenant Preparatory School

At Covenant Preparatory School, an education is not limited to the classroom, or to academic subject material, because personal growth depends on a broad range of experiences. Consistent with this approach, the school requires that all students who have done sufficiently well during the academic year be considered for an invitation into the next grade at Covenant Prep, and to participate in the Stella Maris Program during the summer.

This tuition-free program takes place during the month of July and provides further opportunities for students to strengthen their academic skills and to enjoy activities and sports. Leadership, teamwork, and friendships will be fostered in an environment combining academics with recreation.

At camp the students will work on improving their grammar and mathematical skills. Due to the short time that the students are in class, it is extremely important that their behavior is excellent and their focus is sharp.

Students will be placed in one of four groups that alternate each day between math and grammar. The classes will be a review of the curriculum from the previous school year and a preview of the upcoming year. The curriculum of the summer camp will focus on the fundamental principles of algebra and grammar. Incoming eighth graders will also receive SSAT review during camp.

Student Field Trips at Covenant Preparatory School

Covenant Prep field trips, scheduled for most Saturdays during the school year, are designed to add cultural, educational, and community service elements to the program. These trips introduce students to educational and historical sites, monuments and cultural institutions in the area, and give them opportunities to become involved in service work. They are designed to offer a learning experience in which students and members of the community can build ties of friendship and Covenant spirit together. All field trips provide an active learning experience for each student that reinforces classroom instruction with hands-on activities. Students will have the opportunity to visit Mystic Seaport and Aquarium, spend time at the Mark Twain House or see an exhibit at the Wadsworth Atheneum.  More adventure-oriented trips include rock climbing, nature hikes, mountain biking and fishing.

While most field trips are optional, every student is required to take part in designated community service field trips, which occur once a quarter for each grade level. Part of Covenant’s mission is to reinforce the awareness that much has been given to Covenant students and faculty, and that much is therefore expected of them in return, through service to others in the community. Service trips range from cleaning up litter in neighborhoods to spending time with senior citizens at a nursing home.
